George B. Thomas, Sr. Learning Academy (GBTLA)
Our mission is to accelerate students' mastery of academics, specifically reading, language arts, and mathematics. The Learning Academy is a tutoring and mentoring program that enhances the academic performance and achievement of students in grades 1 through 12. On Saturday mornings, from 8:30 to 11 a.m., certified teachers and volunteer tutors work with students on core subjects and teach successful learning/studying strategies.

Without knowing the details, I am so sad about the recent deaths of
two Montgomery County teens. Sadly, sometimes it takes a tragic
headline to make us pay attention to the fact that lots of our kids
need mental health support. I am very appreciative of the work MCCPTA
and my local PTA has done to keep advocacy for children's mental
health at the top of our agenda.
Here are some resources that might help families, including Operation
Runaway. Most services are available in English and Spanish as well as
other languages. Also, this is a great time to speak with your child,
your child's mental health provider, school guidance counselor, school
nurse, or Youth Services Center if you have concerns, and to share
information about your school's Student Assistance Program.
